I consider my work with the San Francisco based non-profit organization ELDERGIVERS to be as, if not more, important than the work I do with my brushes in the studio. Since starting an art program at San Francisco's Laguna Honda Hospital nearly thirteen years ago, through the guidance and collaboration of ELDERGIVERS' staff, I have found great meaning and purpose in my life through this cause. The gifts that the program and the elders themselves have bestowed upon me will require a lifetime to repay. I have been given the opportunity to work in a field that I love for a constituency who not only have so much to offer but remain overlooked and underappreciated by a majority of our culture. In their isolation and exclusion, Elders, through a triumph of the human condition, remain vibrant, creative and important community resources whom I feel enormously lucky to have tapped into. It is not my, nor my colleague's at ELDERGIVERS, desire, though, for Elders to remain our beautiful little secret. As you will see in our mission statement, we hope to promote a reconnection to our elders everywhere and a disemination of their important gifts.
